The Side Effects Of Poor Insulation

All Posts

Updated: Feb 21, 2023

There’s nothing worse than sitting in bed on a cold night, shivering yourself to sleep. Perhaps it’s a cold draught or a damp ceiling. Sure, you could reach for an extra duvet, put on a hoodie or crank the heating but, in reality, the problem lies elsewhere.

Poor home insulation can have serious consequences for both the structure of your home and the health of those that live within it. Insulation is an essential component of any modern building, as it helps to regulate the temperature and prevent heat loss. Without proper insulation, houses can become draughty and uncomfortable, leading to higher energy bills and an increased carbon footprint.

Here at UK Energy Management, we’re well aware of the problems that poor insulation can cause. Read on to hear our thoughts.

Mould

First on our list of side effects is mould. When insulation is insufficient, outdated or missing, moisture can seep into the walls and ceilings of your home. This can lead to mould growth, which can cause a variety of health problems, including allergic reactions, respiratory issues, and even infections. In addition to being a health hazard, mould can also damage the structural integrity of your home and lead to costly repairs.

Costly Energy Bills

Next up, it goes without saying that poor home insulation can also lead to higher energy bills. When heat escapes from your home, your heating system has to work harder to maintain a comfortable temperature. This can lead to higher energy costs and a greater carbon footprint. For example, improving loft insulation can knock a huge amount of money off of bills.

Poor Living Conditions

Last, but by no means least, poor insulation can affect the comfort level in your home, making it difficult to maintain a consistent temperature and seriously impacting the liveability of a space. If your home has freezing cold spots in the winter or is overheating in the summer, it is likely to be a sign of poor insulation.

UK Energy Management

It’s clear that poor home insulation can pose a multitude of risks to inhabitants, finances and the environment. From mould growth and higher energy bills to poor living conditions and carbon emissions, poor insulation should be rectified as soon as possible.

Here at UK Energy Management, we’re proud to work with customers up and down the country, helping them to access the government’s ECO4 scheme. This funding enables individuals to gain access to the funding they need to improve their home’s energy efficiency.
