Top Tips For Home Energy Conservation

All Posts

As the cost of living continues to rise, households up and down the country are feeling the squeeze. From food shops and essentials to heating and electricity, we’re all looking for ways to save. However, many homes are throwing money down the drain in the form of poor energy efficiency.

If you’re looking to save money on household bills, reducing energy consumption is a good place to start. Here at UK Energy Management, we’ve put together a quick guide to home energy conservation. Read on to find out more.

Turn Off The Lights

We thought we’d start with the basics. We’ve all heard it a million times before, but turning off your lights is guaranteed to reduce your overall energy consumption. Whether you’re popping to the shops or just leaving a room for a few minutes, turning off lights will reduce your energy bills and lessen your carbon footprint. What’s more, it will ensure that bulbs last longer.

Improve Your Insulation

Another sure way to conserve energy is by wasting less. It may sound obvious, but a vast amount of heat is lost due to poor insulation. Whether it is through the roof, walls, attic or windows, lost heat is far from ideal. It costs money and can increase a home’s carbon footprint.

One means of rectifying this issue is via cavity wall insulation. Many older homes built with hollow spaces between the cavity walls did not have insulation in this space. As the name suggests, cavity wall insulation involves filling this gap and preventing heat loss.

Heating Upgrade

Next up, those hoping to save energy via insulation alone may be barking up the wrong tree. If your heating system is outdated, an upgrade may be due. A newer, more efficient heating system will lower costs and reduce carbon emissions. Gas boiler replacements are one of the many methods of improving a home’s heating system.

We know what you’re thinking, with the cost of living soaring and purses tightening, a heating upgrade just isn’t a viable solution. Well, that’s where we can help out. Here at UK Energy Management, we’re committed to helping eligible customers access the government’s ECO4 grants. This eco grant allows individuals to access free heating upgrades in an attempt to make homes more energy efficient.
