Four Ways to Save Money On Your Heating Bills

All Posts

No one wants to live in a cold and draughty home and it can cause serious health issues, especially if you’re elderly or prone to allergies. However, heating can be expensive and it’s estimated that the average household spends 53% of its gas/electricity bill on heating. Many people worry about how they’ll afford to heat their homes during the winter months but there are things you can do to cut down on the cost. From simple measures like turning down your thermostat, to applying for heating funding, see below for four ways to save money on your heating bills.

Seal up draughts

You’d be surprised how much heat can escape from seemingly tiny gaps but sealing up these areas can help to lower your heating bills. You can purchase inexpensive draught-proofing strips for window panes but adding thick curtains can also help. You can purchase similar strips to block out draughts from doors or make your own draught excluder out of toy stuffing and any leftover fabric.

Turn down your thermostat

Turning your thermostat down by just 1°C could save you up to £75 a year. It’s unlikely that you’ll notice the difference so it’s definitely worth trying! Start with 1°C and then lower it by a few degrees more if you’re comfortable. If it gets too chilly you can always turn it back up again.

Apply for ECO3 funding

If you live in a vulnerable or low income household, you may be eligible for ECO3 funding. ECO3 grants are designed to help low income households access funding for an upgraded heating system, so you can enjoy a more energy efficient home and lower heating bills. Funding is available for a wide variety of upgrades, including a replacement boiler, electric heating or loft insulation. You can apply for funding via a company like UK Energy Management (NE) Ltd.

Layer up

It’s one of the oldest tricks around but adding another layer really can make all the difference. Try putting a jumper on before you crank up the heating, or make sure there are plenty of cosy blankets and cushions around to keep you warm.

If you want to manage your heating funding and enjoy an energy efficient home all year round, get in touch with the team at UK Energy Management (NE) Ltd. We can access heating funding from utility companies to provide heating upgrades for low income and vulnerable households. These include replacement boilers, electric heating, gas LPG boilers and cavity wall insulation, so you can enjoy an energy efficient home all year round.

It’s simple to apply, simply give us a call today or contact us online to see if you’re eligible for a grant.
